Big Red Mama, illustration by heavylox

I saw this woman the other day. She was walking so i couldnt really get a good drawing done, but in the brief time she passed me i did a quick sketch and then was inspired by her memory. She had a quintessential caricature-ish figure or one well suited to be embellished.

Nursery Box

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Ive had these wooden boxes kicking around from last fall, with the idea of painting them so they could be used at Boogers sisters Nursery, as a means for customers to carry their plants around the nursery and to the their cars when cashed out. So i finally started playing around with one, after hemming and hawing for months about what materials to use, the price of rice in southern Peru, and other such frivolous issues. One4All ink is now my go to solution for all things, its my new artist duct tape. I didnt bother sealing the would this time around, as i wanted to also get a feel for how much ink would get sucked in to the grain versus what would remain on the surface; results were encouraging. As you might expect with cheapie wood the various pieces used to construct the box had their own quirks. On the nicer tighter pieces the ink was pretty much one shot pop. IN other areas the wood was so porous it took a few coats or a white under coat to get the color intensity i was after. If i had sealed the wood first it would have been a non-issue, but was good to fond out you could in theory get some transparency out of layering the ink on a porous surface.

3sides-rar

i might have to keep this one. I think the official boxes should jsut have one painted side or be themed thus easier to name, keep track of and differentiate between.

Collection And Counting

I ordered some more One4All a few days ago, and it arrived. I decided the best thing to do was to round out the primaries and take it from there. TO celebrate i started to paint another side to a wooded create i was given by Boogies sister.

This is jsut the first sketch and some basic undr coating, its a bit further along now but i havent had a chance to get the images dealt with yet so more to come.
Stay tuned! I havent had achance to write that yet and as its prolly fairly premature why not jump the gun, so if you’re one of the 25 or so folks a day who get here only to  hastily click away, i say it agian, stay tuned more to come!

one4all ink + brush + water

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Booger PfabAnother test of the Molotow One4All inks, using watercolor paper, water, brushes and a niji water brush. Ive found that if you mix the black ink with water it will stain the water to give you a wash but also sink to the bottom so you can scrape the bottom of the container and get an opaque black.
