Spent the weekend in Connecticut at a good good friends wedding (congrats young lad!). I stayed in a little B&B, luckily it was the kind NOT inhabited by the owners so there was no ‘getting to know you complete strangers’ that kinda turn me off about the B&Bs. The morning of the wedding things were bustling early so sleep was not an option. After some coffee i sat on the porch and drew the cottage across the way.
The evening before the Browns asked us if we needed a ride to the rehearsal dinner proving they were not the typical CT folk. Not long after being distracted from the drawings the Browns emerged from their cottage so i strolled over to show them the drawing and engage in some atypical small talk.
The Browns it turns out are pretty awesome. They told me they had been married for 37 years, Mrs Browns parents were gearing up fr their 87th wedding anniversary. Apparently after retiring The Browns had moved along with some friends and family to Missouri. Mr Brown claimed it took him about 5 minutes to make his decision about Missouri, it took Ms Brown a bit longer. In the end they decided it was close to misery, which until now the similarity in pronunciation hadn’t occurred to me. So finally they moved back to Ct, leaving a son, firefighter and his family to tough it out in the great Misery. Several years of separation was weighing on Ms Brown as she wasnt happy about the distance between herself and her son and his family. They tried Florida, as that is also where retirees go ( i didnt know Misery was also on that list). The heat put a fast kibosh on Fla, so back to ct they came. On a recent visit from their son they got a phone call from him. He asked them to sit down so he could deliver some news. They did, although as with most requests to brace ones self their anxiety rose as they awaited their fears to be spoken. As fate would have it the new was good, he had just finished closing on a house is the area and was preparing his family for the move back to New England. I could hear the joy still echoing in their voices as the browns took turns narrating the story.
It was good to meet you Browns, i wish you continued happiness in your marriage and family coming back into closer proximity
Sorry Browns i think i made your Cottage a bit smaller then it was, in real life, i cute-ified it accidentally.
